An engineering masterpiece, the Concorde was the result of a collaborative venture between the aviation industries of Britain and France. It dates back to design work for a supersonic airliner carried out by Sud Aviation and Bristol, their respective Super Caravelle and Bristol 233 designs being remarkably similar in configuration to each other.

Concorde has visited CMH on at least two occasions in the mid 90's for charter flights. I was working in a construction trailer off of Taylor Station Road in (I think) 1995 when I heard a massive roar from overhead.

The Concorde has been to Kai Tak before. Did it have to make several stops to get from LHR to HKG? Did it fly supersonic for some of the flight portions over sparsely populated areas? It has also been to AUS (back when it was still Bergstrom AFB) when Queen Elizabeth II came for a visit. I wonder if it was able to make it from NYC BOS to AUS without a mid stop flying subsonic.

The Concorde entered service on January 21, 1976, with BA's London to Bahrain service and Air France's service from Paris to Rio de Janeriro via Dakar. Since then more than 2m passengers have flown Concorde. Both airlines launched services to Washington on May 24 1976 and New York on November 22, 1977.

I went back to my books on Concorde to established the true cost of developement of the aircraft. By 1980 the airliner had cost £800 million to Britain and 8.4 Billion Francs to France. That is about £1.6 billion. In todays money that must be at least £5 6 billion pounds just to build 14 aircraft (which are underutilized).
