The best way to get Aspell for Windows is to use the MSYS2 binaries. MSYS2 is available at s: .msys2.org . Binaries for Aspell 0.50 are still available at : aspell.net win32 but they are no longer supported. If you are interested in updating them for Aspell 0.60 please let me know.

It differs in several important ways from most of the other free word lists you can download. The 12dicts lists are oriented towards common words. If you're looking for myriads of archaic, scientific or computer jargon words, you should look elsewhere. The 12dicts lists have been rigorously checked for errors.

Premade dictionaries are available for Hunspell, Aspell, and as plain wordlists. If none of those dictionaries are suitable for your needs a simple web app is available to create a customized wordlist.

C compilers for non Unix systems might work but it will take some work. Aspell at very least requires a Unix like environment (sh, grep, sed, tr, …), and Perl in order to build. Aspell also uses a few POSIX functions when necessary. The latest version can always be found at GNU Aspell’s home page at : aspell.net.

Unlike Ispell, Aspell can also easily check documents in UTF 8 without having to use a special dictionary. Aspell will also do its best to respect the current locale setting.
