Issue with Canvas audit log? I stayed on the exam page the entire time I was taking the exam and yet I lost 20 points. I have no idea what to do. I don't think my professor would believe me if I tried to tell her I hadn't left the exam window. Has anyone else had an issue like this?? : r college Go to college r college r college

The quiz log shouldn’t be used as the only evidence. If your Wi Fi blips or the page falls asleep (which some browsers do), Canvas says you stopped viewing the page (because for all it knows, you did). If they have the quiz log and you in a GroupMe posting answers or something, then it’s a violation, but the log alone shouldn’t be enough. That being said, cheating is bad, mmkay?

Empty threat, canvas only tracks when you tab out and how long, since it's open note and all my notes be on google doc, online, hasn't made a difference, now what professors are more worried about is posting test and exam questions on a site like chegg, and 8 students all copy pasting the answer not even trying to put it in their own words.

Canvas is open source so you can actually check. If you check out the quiz log history you’ll see the two major ‘cheating’ countermeasures are inactivity and and window tab selection. It cannot tell that you specifically split screen. It can however monitor that you clicked away from the window or to another tab.

A new Professor at UF told my class that they can monitor user’s time spent on Canvas. He said that it shows if a user spent some time on the platform, within the course, or if they hardly spent enough time to accomplish anything on the platform. Professors who say, “I can see when you clicked away from the quiz (or test) on Canvas,” are telling the truth.

My school uses canvas and next week I have an online test through the system. My professor said that he is able to see if students are cheating through the analytics of his canvas account.

One of my professors claims that he can see when we've been on Canvas and which pages we've been viewing and how long we've been viewing each page. Can he actually see this information, or is he bluffing?

Canvas cannot detect if you are using an extension, at least not to my knowledge. However, if something like that is suspected, it can still be investigated. I’ve seen people have to come in and retake a quiz in front of the professor to make sure they weren’t cheating because they failed the exam but got all 100s on the quizzes.

There was an HDA and announcement in Canvas about this, accounts are temporarily deactivated and should be up starting Jan 3.
